I am just going to start out by saying this book made me cry. It was so well-written and so real that it literally brought me to tears when I read it. Fifth Born , by Zelda Lockhart was an excellent book. This book is about a young girl named Odessa , who is sexually abused by her own father ( My god , even thought he is a fictional character , I wanted to kill him) ,Loni, and emotionally and physically abused by her family. Odessa's mother , Bernice , is a total bitch. She didn't love Odessa , not one bit , and really didn't care what happned to her. The reason I cried is because Odessa is so young and yet she is so mature. She's been through things that most adults can't even begin to imagine. I cried because I know that stuff like this happens in real life. It made me think of people I don't even know that are being treated this way by people who are supposed to be thier 'parents'. You have to read the book and have an understanding of human emotions to understand what I am talking about.
This book also made me think of child abuse. I understand that it is absolutely understandable for a person to punish thier children when they are doing something wrong, but when it comes to literally punching and kicking kids , beating them with belts until they are nearly out of it , is a different story. I wonder what makes a person so fucked up that they would beat a helpless child? Is it because they were beat? Or is it just that they are cruel and evil? Either way, thier is no excuse as to why someone should beat a child.
Damn , I got off topic , but that book really did make me cry and feel like I had never felt before. I put myself into the body of a fictional girl , growing up in the past. I felt what she felt and looked at the world through her eyes and did not like what I saw. Imagine living in a house where you are only five years old and your father does something horrific to you and you can't help yourself. You know your mother can hear you screaming and crying , but she just closes her eyes and acts as if nothing is happening. When I read that part of the book I had a fucking fit. It made me think of all the ways to possibly kill a man with your bare hands , or in this case , a doll.
Maybe I need to stop reading books if i'm going to get all worked up.
Or not.
Read the book if you haven't, it is an excellent book , so well written and evokes emotions you thought you didn't have.
Overall , my favorite charecter is Ella Mae. If anyone is a life saver , she is :) .
